
MARYLAND — The Maryland State Police are investigating the death of an inmate at the Maryland Correctional and Training Center in Hagerstown.
According to police, around 3 p.m. on December 16, the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit was contacted by the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services Internal Investigative Unit regarding the death of an inmate at the facility.
The inmate was identified as Wenhui Sun, 36. Jail personnel pronounced Sun dead at the correctional center. Authorities said two other inmates have been identified as suspects in the case, though no charges have been filed at this time.
Investigators said the death followed an altercation involving three inmates, including Sun. After the incident, Sun was taken to the facility’s medical unit, where he later died.
Maryland State Police homicide investigators responded to the scene, and the investigation remains ongoing.
