
INDIANA — An inmate died Tuesday morning at the Huntington County Jail, prompting an investigation led by the Indiana State Police.
According to a press release from Indiana State Police, jail staff conducted a routine check on the inmate and found them unresponsive in their cell shortly after 7 a.m., approximately 24 minutes after the previous check. Staff attempted life-saving measures, but the inmate was pronounced dead.
State police said foul play is not suspected at this time. Additional details surrounding the inmate’s death have not been released.
The Huntington County Coroner’s Office will release the inmate’s identity once a scheduled autopsy is completed.
Indiana State Police were asked to lead the investigation by the Huntington County Sheriff’s Department. The investigation remains ongoing.
