VIRGINIA — An inmate at Henrico County’s Regional Jail West died early Monday morning, and the circumstances surrounding his death remain under investigation.
According to the Henrico County Sheriff’s Office, 32-year-old Samiel Malachi was found unresponsive at the jail at approximately 4:30 a.m. on April 6. Jail staff attempted to resuscitate him before emergency responders arrived.
Malachi’s body was later transported to the medical examiner’s office. Officials said an official cause of death has not yet been determined.
The Henrico County Police Division is leading the investigation into the incident. Authorities said no charges have been filed in connection with Malachi’s death.
Officials said Malachi had been facing drug charges and had violated probation from previous offenses. He was scheduled to go to trial in May.
The investigation remains ongoing.
