Inmate dies at Tennessee prison, investigation underway

TENNESSEE — Authorities are investigating the death of an inmate at the Nashville-Davidson County Sheriff’s Office Male Correctional Development Center on Wednesday evening.

According to the sheriff’s office, staff responded to a report of an unresponsive inmate around 5:50 p.m. on July 2.

Officers began performing CPR and contacted the Nashville Fire Department, but the inmate was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deceased has been identified as 31-year-old William Davenport, a locally sentenced felon who had been in custody since September 2024 on burglary and theft charges. He was serving a three-year sentence.

The Metro Nashville Police Department is leading the investigation. No further details have been released at this time.
