Inmate dead following medical emergency at North Carolina jail

NORTH CAROLINA — A 63-year-old inmate died over the weekend after suffering a medical emergency at the Surry County Detention Center.

According to the Surry County Sheriff’s Office, detention staff witnessed James Grayson Hall Jr. experience a medical emergency on Sunday, Aug. 31. During attempts to provide medical care, Hall went into cardiac arrest.

Surry County Emergency Medical Services responded and performed life-saving measures, but Hall was pronounced dead at the scene.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation has been notified and is involved in the case.
