SOUTH CAROLINA — An inmate at Lee Correctional Institution died Monday after being assaulted inside the prison, according to the South Carolina Department of Corrections.
Officials said 37-year-old Mario Leven Harrison died at a hospital following an assault that occurred in a common area of his living unit. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine his cause of death.
The Department of Corrections said the incident is being investigated as a “suspected homicide.” No information has been released about possible suspects or charges.
The SCDC Inspector General’s Office is investigating the case with assistance from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and the Lee County Coroner’s Office.
