SOUTH CAROLINA — An inmate at Kershaw Correctional Institution has been charged with the murder of another inmate following a deadly stabbing earlier this year, according to the South Carolina Department of Corrections (SCDC).
Emmanuel Shai Hutchinson, 44, is facing multiple charges, including murder, carrying a concealed weapon by an inmate, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
Authorities say Hutchinson used a homemade wooden stake to stab fellow inmate Terry Wayne Cook Jr. on May 6.
Arrest warrants indicate Cook suffered trauma to the neck, head, and face during the assault. He died from his injuries on June 5.
According to the arrest documents, Hutchinson has confessed to the attack. The incident remains under investigation.
