OHIO — An inmate at the Knox County Jail is facing new charges after allegedly assaulting a corrections officer during a disturbance over the weekend, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies said they responded around 4:45 p.m. Sunday to a disturbance in a jail dormitory involving inmate Hunter Clemons.
During the incident, Clemons allegedly placed a corrections officer in a chokehold and struck him in the face with a closed fist. Deputies subdued Clemons and secured him.
The officer sustained serious head and facial injuries and was taken for medical treatment. His name has not been released.
The sheriff’s office said its Major Crimes Unit is investigating and intends to charge Clemons with felonious assault on a peace officer, a first-degree felony. The case is expected to be presented to a grand jury on Sept. 8.
Clemons was already being held on two counts of grand theft and one count of retaliation against a law enforcement officer. He has since been transferred to the Morrow County Jail pending a court appearance. The investigation is ongoing.
