OHIO — An investigation is underway in Preble County after a 12-day-old infant was found dead at a home on Sunday morning.

According to the Preble County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called around 9 a.m. to a residence in the 4000 block of Camden West Elkton Road following a report of an unresponsive baby.

In a 911 call, a man told dispatchers that the infant’s bassinet had fallen over and the baby was not breathing. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and confirmed the infant’s death.

The child was transported to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause and manner of death, authorities said.

Preble County Sheriff Mike Simpson said the results of the autopsy will guide the next steps in the investigation. No additional details were released, and officials have not indicated whether foul play is suspected.
