Indiana school announces closure due to school bus fire

INDIANA — Classes were canceled Thursday at a southeast Indiana elementary school after a school bus caught fire on campus.

According to a social media post from Rod Hite, superintendent of Switzerland County Elementary, the fire occurred while a school bus was parked at the school.

Hite said all students and the bus driver were able to evacuate safely, and no injuries were reported. Emergency services responded to the scene and remained on site as crews worked to address the situation.

Officials said the fire was contained to the bus and did not spread to the school building. However, classes were canceled for the day to allow for inspections and cleanup at the school.

No additional details about the cause of the fire were immediately released.
