Indiana fentanyl dealer sentenced to 15 years in prison

INDIANA — A Fort Wayne man has been sentenced to more than 15 years in federal prison for drug and firearm offenses involving large quantities of fentanyl, according to prosecutors.

Michael O. Beers, 39, of Fort Wayne, was sentenced on Feb. 4 after pleading guilty to possessing more than 400 grams of fentanyl with intent to distribute, possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Following his prison sentence, Beers will serve five years of supervised release.

Adam L. Mildred, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Indiana, announced the sentencing.

Prosecutors said the case stemmed from an incident in October 2024, when police found Beers unconscious inside a running vehicle at a gas station. Officers discovered a loaded handgun on his hip, along with significant amounts of heroin and fentanyl inside the vehicle.

Authorities said the fentanyl was intended for distribution and posed a serious risk to the community. The investigation was led by the Drug Enforcement Administration and Indiana High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas, with assistance from the Fort Wayne Police Department.

Federal officials said the sentence reflects the severity of trafficking large amounts of fentanyl while illegally possessing a firearm.
