PENNSYLVANIA — A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect Friday morning for several counties in northeastern Pennsylvania as freezing rain and icy conditions create hazardous travel.
According to the National Weather Service, the advisory covers Northern Wayne, Pike and Southern Wayne counties, including the communities of Milford, Equinunk, Honesdale and Damascus. The advisory is expected to remain in place until 10 a.m. EST.
Forecasters say freezing rain is occurring across the region, with additional ice accumulations expected to produce a light glaze on surfaces. Even minor ice buildup can create dangerous conditions on untreated roads, sidewalks and bridges.
Officials warn that the icy conditions could impact the Friday morning commute. Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution while traveling, as roads may become slippery with little warning.
The National Weather Service also advises residents to be prepared for possible power outages if ice accumulates on power lines and tree limbs.
Transportation officials remind motorists to adjust their speeds based on road conditions. Travelers can check the latest roadway and traffic updates across Pennsylvania by visiting 511PA or calling 511.
Authorities say conditions are expected to gradually improve after the advisory expires later Friday morning, but caution is still advised where ice may linger.
