WISCONSIN — A widespread winter weather advisory is in effect across much of Wisconsin as freezing rain is expected to cause icy conditions from Monday night through Tuesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service, a complex winter system moving into the Upper Mississippi River Valley is bringing a mix of freezing rain, rain, and light sleet to central, west-central, and northern parts of the state.

Ice accumulations between one-tenth and two-tenths of an inch are expected in many areas, with isolated higher amounts possible, especially on bridges, overpasses, and other elevated surfaces.
Counties under a winter weather advisory include Buffalo, Trempealeau, Jackson, Monroe, Juneau, Adams, Clark, Taylor, Polk, Barron, Rusk, Chippewa, Dunn, Eau Claire, Pepin, Pierce, St. Croix, Price, Burnett, Sawyer, Washburn, Marathon, Wood, Portage, Waupaca, Waushara, Lincoln, Shawano, Langlade, Menominee, Marinette, Oconto, Brown, Outagamie, Winnebago, Calumet, Green Lake, and Marquette.
The advisory generally takes effect between 9 p.m. Monday and midnight, depending on location, and remains in place through late Tuesday morning. Forecasters warn that even a light glaze of ice can quickly lead to hazardous travel conditions and significantly impact the Tuesday morning commute.
Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and use caution on icy roadways. Residents are also encouraged to prepare for the possibility of sporadic power outages due to ice buildup on trees and power lines.
