VIRGINIA — The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for much of Virginia, including central, south central, southwest, and west central regions, ahead of expected freezing conditions Sunday morning.

The advisory covers numerous counties, including Alleghany, Bath, Roanoke, Botetourt, Rockbridge, Patrick, Franklin, Bedford, Amherst, Campbell, Appomattox, and Buckingham. Cities affected include Roanoke, Salem, Radford, Lexington, Covington, Lynchburg, and Appomattox.

Freezing rain is expected, with light ice accumulations of less than a tenth of an inch in most areas. Roads, bridges, and overpasses are likely to become slick and hazardous. In Campbell, Appomattox, and Buckingham counties, a light glaze of ice is also expected.

The advisory will be in effect from 2 a.m. to noon Sunday for most areas, with Campbell, Appomattox, and Buckingham counties specifically from 4 a.m. to noon.

Officials urge drivers to slow down and exercise caution while traveling. Pedestrians are also advised to be careful on sidewalks, stairs, and driveways, as surfaces may be icy and slippery. The latest road conditions can be obtained by calling 511.
