I-95 in Florida shutdown following vehicle crash

FLORIDA — A section of Interstate 95 was closed again late Wednesday morning after a crash site from earlier in the day reignited in flames.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the initial crash occurred around 4:30 a.m. when a semi-trailer traveling southbound veered from the outside lane into the center lane and sideswiped a van hauling a vehicle.

Both vehicles then ran into the median, and the semi spilled plastic pipes across the roadway. A third vehicle was damaged after striking the debris.

The semi-truck driver was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The highway was briefly reopened, but at approximately 10:15 a.m., the crash site caught fire again while crews were cutting the guardrail for repairs.

Troopers confirmed that diesel from the semi did not ignite. Highway cameras showed flames in the median, prompting another closure.

By 10:45 a.m., some lanes had reopened to traffic.
