NORTH CAROLINA — A tractor-trailer crash caused major traffic disruptions in Raleigh early Wednesday morning after an 18-wheeler overturned near a busy interstate ramp.

The crash was reported around 7 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of Wade Avenue at the Interstate 440 ramp.

According to the Raleigh Police Department, the overturned tractor-trailer forced the closure of both ramps from Wade Avenue to Interstate 440 and Interstate 40. Officials said the closures are expected to remain in place for most of the day as crews work to clear the scene.

In a post on X, Raleigh police said, “It is estimated to remain closed most of the day. Drivers should use other routes as crews clear the scene. Updates will be provided as they become available.”

Police said no injuries were reported as a result of the crash. However, diesel fuel spilled onto the roadway, requiring a hazardous materials response and extended cleanup efforts.

The crash caused heavy traffic delays along Wade Avenue and Interstate 440 during the morning commute.

Officials advised drivers traveling east on Wade Avenue to use Blue Ridge Road as an alternate route while crews continue working to reopen the affected ramps.
