NORTH CAROLINA — Lanes of Interstate 40 in both directions near the Jones Sausage Road exit were closed Thursday afternoon following a crash involving a deputy with the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office.

According to reports from the scene, the crash occurred near the Wake County line close to Garner.

Deputies and troopers with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol surrounded the vehicle while diverting traffic and investigating the crash.

Authorities have not released details about what led to the collision. It remains unclear whether the deputy or anyone inside the sedan was injured.

Traffic alerts indicated the roadway was expected to reopen around noon. The crash happened during steady rainfall in Wake County, which has created slick road conditions. Earlier Thursday, wet roads were blamed for two additional crashes along Interstate 40 West near Airport Boulevard in Raleigh.

The incident remains under investigation.
