SOUTH CAROLINA — Authorities are investigating after skeletal remains found over the weekend in the Chesnee community were given a presumptive identification, according to officials.
The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office said the remains are believed to belong to Ray Lee Suttles, 57, who was reportedly last seen in July 2025. The identification is considered presumptive and will remain so until a forensic anthropologist is able to examine the remains.
The discovery was reported at approximately 1:20 p.m. Saturday. According to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to Ezell Road after a hunter found what appeared to be human remains.
On Monday, crews from Foothills Search and Rescue dog teams assisted the sheriff’s office and the coroner’s office in locating additional bones in the area, according to reports.
The investigation remains ongoing and is being handled jointly by the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office and the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office. No further details have been released at this time.
