SOUTH CAROLINA — A man was taken into custody Friday night after deputies used a helicopter to track him down following a pursuit along Interstate 95, according to the Florence County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff T.J. Joye said dispatchers received multiple 911 calls reporting a driver operating a vehicle recklessly on the interstate, prompting deputies to initiate a chase.
Authorities later determined the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Florida. During the pursuit, the driver abandoned the car and fled on foot, Joye said.
With assistance from a sheriff’s office helicopter, deputies were able to locate the suspect in the area of East Smith Street in Timmonsville. He was taken into custody without further incident.
The suspect remains in custody. Sheriff Joye said additional details, including the suspect’s identity and potential charges, will be released as the investigation continues.
