Gov. DeWine proposes tax cut for Ohio families with children

OHIO — Ohio Governor Mike DeWine visited Eagle’s Christian Preschool & Child Care in Youngstown on Thursday to promote his proposed family tax cut, a plan aimed at easing financial strain for working families across the state.

“We have parents with young children who are working hard every day and yet are still feeling strained. Investing in our families is worth it because, when our families are stronger, all of Ohio is stronger,” said Governor DeWine.

“My family tax cut proposal will provide real relief to parents—helping with costs of food, clothes, diapers, and other essential needs, so more families can thrive.”

The proposed tax cut would provide working families with up to $1,000 for each child under the age of seven.

State officials estimate the plan would benefit approximately 450,000 families across Ohio.

Research cited by the Governor’s office shows that tax relief for families contributes to improved financial stability and more secure home environments for children.

During his visit, Governor DeWine toured classrooms, met with staff, and learned more about the early childhood programs offered at the center.

Eagle’s Christian Preschool & Child Care holds a gold-level rating from the Ohio Department of Children and Youth’s Step Up to Quality program and features a curriculum aligned with the Science of Reading.

The center currently serves over 400 children and more than 200 families across three locations in northeast Ohio.

Many of these families receive assistance through Ohio’s Child Care Choice Voucher Program, which is also a focus of the Governor’s executive budget proposal.

The voucher program, administered by the Department of Children and Youth, helps eligible families afford child care while parents work, attend school, or take part in job training.

The family tax cut and the Child Care Choice Voucher Program are part of Governor DeWine’s broader strategy to support families and strengthen communities.

Last week, he announced a new initiative, Partner for Change, aimed at improving birth outcomes and reducing infant mortality in targeted regions of the state.
