OHIO — Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, Lt. Governor Jon Husted, and Ohio Department of Development Director Lydia Mihalik announced nearly $25.9 million in grants and planned tax credits aimed at helping more Ohioans achieve homeownership.
The funding is part of the third round of the Welcome Home Ohio program, designed to revitalize neighborhoods across the state.
“These investments are transforming our communities by creating homes Ohio families can be proud of,” said Director Mihalik.
“From our charming small towns to our energetic big cities, the Welcome Home Ohio program is helping revitalize neighborhoods and bring a sense of comfort and stability to people looking to set roots in our great state.”
Today’s announcement includes over $25.7 million in grants for the construction, purchase, or rehabilitation of 130 homes, along with $119,274 in planned tax credits to support the construction or rehab of three additional homes.
Since its inception, the Welcome Home Ohio program has awarded nearly $60 million to fund 440 owner-occupied, single-family homes across 24 counties.
The Welcome Home Ohio program, created in partnership with the Ohio General Assembly through House Bill 33, is set to invest $100 million in grants for landbanks to purchase, rehabilitate, or build residential properties for income-eligible Ohioans.
Additionally, $25 million in nonrefundable tax credits remain available for eligible developers to support rehab and new construction projects.
“Safe, affordable housing opens doors to better opportunities for families and strengthens the fabric of our communities,” said Governor DeWine. “The Welcome Home Ohio program is creating pathways to homeownership for more Ohioans, while bringing new life to neighborhoods.”
Lt. Governor Husted emphasized the importance of the program as Ohio’s economy grows.
“New jobs are being created in Ohio, and the population is growing in many communities. As a result, there is an increasing need for housing, and we must meet this demand to maintain affordability,” Husted said.
“More of our children and grandchildren are choosing to stay in Ohio, so we need to ensure an adequate housing supply to meet this demand.”
The Welcome Home Ohio program aims to create stability and opportunity for Ohio families, while supporting the growth of communities across the state.
Hello there, I would just like to ask if this is also for low income families? I am 61, on social security disability and also ssi. My son was in a terrible accident that caused him to have a traumatic brain injury and terrible Grand Mal seizures. He takes over 3,000 mg of Keppra and Trileptal to help with his seizures. He also has had a heart attack and 8 months ago he was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. We have rented the house we live in for 20 years. Have never missed a payment. We would be very interested in the Welcome Home Project if we are eligible. Thank you so much. We live in Middletown, Ohio 45044. Butler County.
