GEORGIA — A Worth County high school teacher has died following a crash Wednesday afternoon that authorities say involved a driver under the influence.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the two-vehicle crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. on April 1 along Highway 300 near the intersection with Georgia Highway 32.

Officials said Worth County High School social studies teacher Jim “Jimbo” Houston was driving a Chevrolet pickup truck when it was struck from behind by a Toyota SUV. The impact caused Houston’s truck to leave the roadway and crash into a tree.

Houston was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Investigators said the driver of the Toyota SUV was under the influence at the time of the crash. The driver’s identity has not been released.

Authorities said charges are pending as the investigation continues.
