GEORGIA — Hart County Middle School in northeast Georgia was evacuated Tuesday morning after a bomb threat was reported, according to the Hart County School District.

District officials said law enforcement notified the school of the threat, prompting administrators to evacuate students as a precaution. Students were moved safely to First Baptist Church Hartwell while authorities responded.

As of 10:30 a.m., law enforcement officers were checking the school building. No additional details about the threat were immediately released.

Parents and guardians were allowed to pick up their children from the evacuation site. School officials said students who are not picked up will be provided lunch and dismissed according to normal school procedures.

The situation remains under investigation.
