PENNSYLVANIA — A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for much of northern and eastern Pennsylvania from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday, with freezing rain expected to create hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, light ice accumulations are anticipated across Columbia, Northern Lycoming, Schuylkill, Sullivan, Tioga, Bradford, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Northern Wayne, Pike, Southern Wayne, Susquehanna, and Wyoming Counties, as well as parts of Carbon, Monroe, Lehigh, and Northampton Counties.
Some areas, particularly in higher elevations, could see ice accumulations of up to a tenth of an inch.
Slippery roads, bridges, and overpasses are expected, making travel conditions hazardous, especially during the morning commute. Officials advise motorists to slow down and use caution while driving.
Forecasters predict that freezing rain will transition to rain by midday Friday as temperatures rise above freezing.
Drivers are encouraged to check the latest road conditions at www.511pa.com and prepare for possible power outages due to ice accumulation.
