
VIRGINIA — Four people, including the suspected gunman, were injured in a shooting early Saturday morning in Charlottesville, according to police.
Just before 12:45 a.m. on Nov. 1, officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting an active shooter in the 1100 block of River Road. Police said an officer who was nearby heard gunfire and quickly arrived at the scene.
Responding officers found four people suffering from gunshot wounds and began providing lifesaving aid using tourniquets and trauma kits.
Investigators said the shooting began during a confrontation at a private party on River Road. Shots were fired inside the building, striking two people, and the incident continued outside, where another person was injured.
The suspected shooter, identified as 20-year-old Juan Gavin Castillo of Greene County, was also shot. Castillo faces several charges, including malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and maliciously discharging a firearm within a dwelling.
All four individuals — a 44-year-old man, a 44-year-old woman, a 20-year-old man from Charlottesville, and Castillo — were taken to UVA Medical Center and are reported to be in stable condition.
