SOUTH CAROLINA — Four men were injured Monday evening in a major crash following a high-speed incident in Jasper County, according to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the crash occurred after a vehicle passed a deputy at more than 105 mph. When the deputy turned around to follow, the driver fled. The crash happened at Smith’s Crossing and Highway 17, blocking all directions of traffic.

Officials said four Hispanic men were transported to the hospital. Multiple charges are pending, though details on what caused the crash have not yet been released.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol’s Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is leading the investigation.

Authorities are urging drivers to avoid the area, seek alternate routes, and expect delays.
