LOUISIANA — Four people, including a 3-year-old child, were injured Saturday evening after a boat struck a submerged log in a drainage canal in Assumption Parish, according to officials.

The crash happened around 7:47 p.m. in the Labadieville Drainage Canal. Authorities said the impact threw all four occupants — a man, two women and the toddler — from the boat into the surrounding swamp.

Officials with the Labadieville Volunteer Fire Department said a nearby family friend who was traveling by boat responded to the scene and transported the victims to a nearby boat launch. From there, they were taken to a hospital by ambulance.

The extent of the victims’ injuries was not immediately released.

Authorities said the boat was later recovered from the water roughly five miles from the launch site and returned to a family member.

No additional details about the cause of the crash or the condition of those involved were immediately available.
