Four people dead following vehicle crash in Pennsylvania

PENNSYLVANIA — Four people were killed early Sunday morning when a car crashed and caught fire on State Route 924, according to Pennsylvania State Police in Hazleton.

The crash occurred around 3:30 a.m. when a BMW 328i traveling north lost control near Oakridge Road, veered off the right shoulder, struck trees, and flipped onto its passenger side before catching fire.

Four passengers in the vehicle died at the scene. Due to the severity of the fire, their identities have not yet been confirmed.

A 21-year-old man survived the crash after passing motorists stopped to help him escape the burning vehicle. He was flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital–Cedar Crest near Allentown for treatment.

Route 924 was closed for several hours but reopened to traffic by 9 a.m., according to 511PA.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
