ILLINOIS — Four people, including a 5-year-old girl from Champaign, were killed in a two-vehicle crash Thursday night in Kankakee County, according to authorities.
The Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened around 10:20 p.m. near the intersection of 18000 West and 2000 South Road in Reddick. Deputies responding to the scene found one of the vehicles engulfed in flames. None of the four occupants from either vehicle survived.
Witnesses reported that a 2021 Honda Accord was driving recklessly before the collision, crossing the center line at a high speed and passing other vehicles moments before it struck a Chevrolet Equinox head-on, officials said.
The Illinois State Police Traffic Reconstruction Unit is assisting the Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office with the ongoing investigation.
The identities of the victims are being withheld pending notification of relatives.
