Four people arrested following police chase in South Carolina

SOUTH CAROLINA — Four women were arrested Monday evening after allegedly leading police on a chase through North Charleston, according to authorities.

Officers with the North Charleston Police Department said the incident began when an officer observed three vehicles speeding in the median near an intersection on Spruill Avenue. When the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the vehicles did not stop and continued driving.

Police said the drivers ignored traffic signals and continued through the Park Circle area before turning onto Sumner Avenue.

One of the vehicles eventually stopped, and two occupants were detained. Officers continued pursuing the remaining vehicles, which were later stopped on Marie Street.

After the suspects were detained, one occupant told officers that gunshots had been fired at them from another vehicle. Investigators later determined the incident was connected to an ongoing dispute among the groups involved, stemming from an altercation the night before in Summerville.

Authorities said the chase began after one of the suspects received a message inviting her and others to a fight on Virginia Avenue. During the confrontation, one suspect allegedly used a knife to strike a vehicle, which led to the pursuit.

All three drivers were charged with failure to stop for blue lights. Police identified them as J’Lynn Brown, 20, of Charleston; Niara Bryan, 20, of Charleston; and Danielle Jenkins of North Charleston. A fourth woman, Deja’Marie Graham-Haynes, 28, of Charleston, was charged with public disorderly conduct.

All four were taken to a local detention center.
