Four people arrested following drug bust in Kentucky

KENTUCKY — A joint drug investigation involving the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and the Monticello Police Department has led to the arrest of three individuals in connection with suspected drug trafficking activity near Monticello Elementary School.

Following multiple complaints from residents, law enforcement began surveillance on a home at 311 College Street.

On April 29, 2025, Deputy James Barnett conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle leaving the residence. Information gathered during the stop led officers to secure a search warrant for the home.

With assistance from multiple deputies and officers, the property was secured to prevent the destruction of evidence while the warrant was processed.

During the search, police discovered 11 plastic bags containing methamphetamine (totaling 14.86 grams), marijuana, digital scales, new plastic bags, drug paraphernalia, and $161 in cash.

Three residents of the home were arrested:

• Jimmy L. Barnes, charged with multiple counts of trafficking in methamphetamine, including within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of drug paraphernalia, and multiple outstanding warrants.
• Kelly Holloway, charged with trafficking in methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
• Jennifer Shelton, charged with possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

All three were lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center. The investigation remains ongoing.

In a separate case the same day, Deputy Jerry Meadows assisted Kentucky Probation and Parole officers during a home visit at 33 Old Beaver Creek Loop.

Officers discovered 25.47 grams of methamphetamine, scales, and drug paraphernalia.

James W. Turner, of Monticello, was arrested and charged with trafficking in methamphetamine (second or greater offense) and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.
