Former Ohio teacher sentenced for crime involving student

OHIO — Louis Cirino, a 41-year-old former Ohio high school teacher and football coach, was sentenced Friday in Geauga County to six months in jail and two years of probation for having a relationship with a student.

Cirino pleaded guilty in November to one count of gross sexual imposition related to a relationship with a minor student between December 2009 and December 2010.

In addition to his jail sentence, Cirino must register annually as a Tier 1 sex offender for 15 years.

This designation prohibits him from living within 1,000 feet of schools or childcare facilities.

Cirino worked for West Geauga Local Schools from 2006 to 2017 before joining Strongsville City Schools as a teacher and head football coach in 2017. He resigned from the Strongsville position in May 2024.
