FLORIDA — A Plant City High School student is facing multiple charges after authorities said he brought a gun to campus Friday morning, prompting an hours-long lockdown.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, two students reported that a 16-year-old boy approached them on campus, demanded cash and showed them a gun that was inside his backpack. The incident triggered a campus-wide lockdown that lasted for most of the morning as deputies investigated the report.
The suspect was later located at his home in Plant City. Investigators said the firearm and the money taken during the incident were recovered from a friend’s vehicle at another residence. Authorities said the gun was not loaded and no ammunition was found.
The teen is now facing several charges, including two counts of robbery with a firearm, tampering with physical evidence, disrupting school functions, carrying a concealed firearm, minor in possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm on school property.
No injuries were reported during the incident.
