FLORIDA — A Cocoa couple has been arrested and charged with child abuse following allegations involving the mistreatment of their daughter, according to police.
Ashley Eldredge and Robert Eldredge were taken into custody after a school resource officer reported suspected abuse to authorities. Cocoa Police said the couple allegedly forced their daughter to drink homemade hot sauce as a form of punishment when she lied.
As part of the investigation, the child underwent a medical evaluation, which officers say revealed signs consistent with physical abuse.
According to an incident report, Robert Eldredge admitted to physically abusing the child during questioning.
Both Ashley and Robert Eldredge are currently being held at the Brevard County Jail. They are scheduled to appear in court on April 7.
