GEORGIA — A Gilmer County Schools bus crashed Tuesday morning in Ellijay, sending five students and the bus driver to the hospital with minor injuries, according to the school district.

District officials said the single-vehicle crash occurred near the intersection of Whitepath Road and River Bend Road and did not involve any other vehicles. Emergency responders transported the injured students and the driver to a local hospital as a precaution.

Whitepath Road was shut down following the crash as deputies, Georgia State Patrol troopers, and other emergency personnel worked at the scene and investigated the incident.

In a statement, Gilmer County Schools thanked those who responded to the crash. “The GCSS would like to express our deepest appreciation for the work of our local first responders and law enforcement personnel,” the district said.

The cause of the crash has not yet been determined.
