Five people arrested following shooting in Ohio

OHIO — Five people, including two minors, have been arrested in connection with a shooting early Saturday morning at the Lett Terrace housing complex, according to the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office.

Trevon Watts, 26, Kaeden Levi Borders, 18, Cody Creed Milum, 19, all of Portsmouth, and two juveniles face multiple charges after authorities responded to reports of gunfire shortly before 4 a.m.

Deputies were initially flagged down by Watts and two women.

Watts, who had an outstanding warrant from Dayton, claimed a vehicle had been following his girlfriend and her friends from a gas station. He alleged that when he confronted the vehicle’s occupants, they opened fire and fled.

However, surveillance footage revealed discrepancies in their story. Detectives determined that the vehicle had turned onto Noel Lane with its windows up before it was ambushed.

Authorities said five individuals fired 36 rounds at the moving car, which was occupied by two juveniles.

The gunfire struck several nearby cars and apartment buildings but caused no injuries.

Further investigation revealed that the two juveniles in the car claimed they were pursuing the women from the gas station to exchange phone numbers, countering Watts’ initial account.

All five suspects were charged with multiple offenses, including discharging a firearm over a roadway, weapons under disability, felony assault, tampering with evidence, improperly discharging a firearm, and criminal damaging.

In addition, Watts faces charges for criminal trespassing and the warrant from Dayton for failure to appear in court.

The case remains under investigation.
