Farmers’ Almanac predicts cold, snowy winter for Kentucky

KENTUCKY — Kentucky residents should prepare for a cold and snowy winter, according to the 2025–2026 Farmers’ Almanac forecast.

The almanac, which released its 209th edition earlier this month, predicts a season marked by “chill, snow, repeat” across much of the country.

For the Ohio Valley region, which includes Kentucky, the outlook calls for a “classic winter wonderland” with frequent cold snaps and snowfall.

Forecasters say winter weather could arrive earlier than the December 21 solstice, with snow possible in parts of the state before the official start of the season.

Mid-January and mid-February are highlighted as periods when bitter cold is expected to hit hardest.

The publication also warns of multiple snow events throughout the season, raising the potential for heavy accumulations in Kentucky.

While the Farmers’ Almanac has long relied on a mix of traditional formulas and lore to make predictions—methods that have sparked debate over accuracy—it remains a popular guide for many looking ahead to the winter months.
