INDIANA — The Farmers’ Almanac has released its extended forecast for the 2025–2026 winter season, predicting a frigid and snow-filled few months for Indiana.
The forecast, which carries the tagline “Chill, Snow, Repeat,” points to a classic Midwestern winter with dramatic swings in temperature and frequent snow events.
According to the Almanac, Indiana can expect a “very cold, snowy” season stretching from December through March.
The state, along with much of the Ohio Valley and Midwest, is expected to see repeated cold snaps combined with steady snowfall, creating what the publication describes as traditional “winter wonderland” conditions.
The forecast notes that mid-January and mid-February may bring the harshest weather, with the coldest temperatures and the heaviest snowfalls likely to occur during those periods.
The Farmers’ Almanac bases its long-range predictions on a proprietary method involving astronomical and environmental patterns such as sunspot activity, tidal action, and lunar cycles.
The forecasts are issued for regions across the United States and are broken into three-day intervals over a 16-month span.
While many readers claim the forecasts are accurate as much as 80 to 85 percent of the time, independent reviews typically estimate the Almanac’s reliability closer to 50 percent, meaning the outlook is best used as a general guide rather than a guarantee.
For Hoosiers, the forecast suggests preparing for a winter that could be longer and harsher than usual.
Snow shovels, cold-weather gear, and readiness for icy travel will be important as residents brace for the season. Still, weather experts advise that while the Almanac offers a broad preview, local forecasts from the National Weather Service will provide the most reliable updates as winter approaches.
