Eight people dead in Ohio vehicle crashes over Thanksgiving weekend

OHIO — The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSP) reported eight fatalities in seven crashes during the five-day Thanksgiving reporting period from Wednesday, Nov. 27, to Sunday, Dec. 1.

According to OSP, three of the individuals killed were not wearing safety belts, and one crash involved impaired driving.

Despite the tragic losses, officials noted that this year marked the lowest number of Thanksgiving-related fatalities since 2018, when seven people died.

During the reporting period, OSP arrested 247 individuals for operating a vehicle while impaired.

Troopers also issued 569 citations for safety belt violations and 297 citations for distracted driving.

Authorities are urging motorists to prioritize safety and follow traffic laws to prevent further tragedies on Ohio’s roadways.
