Eight people arrested in narcotics investigation in North Carolina

NORTH CAROLINA — A former Robeson County Detention Center officer and seven others have been arrested in connection with an illegal narcotics operation, authorities said.

Landon Strickland, 22, of Lumberton, a former detention officer, was charged Thursday with felony conspiracy and continuing criminal enterprise and given a $450,000 secured bond.

Additional arrests include:

  • Kenryn McMillian, 42, of Maxton – felony possession of controlled substance in a jail/prison and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia; $50,000 bond.
  • Dylan Sirmans, 23, of Lumberton – felony conspiracy and continuing criminal enterprise; $450,000 bond.
  • Jamie Sirmans, 64, of Lumberton – felony conspiracy and continuing criminal enterprise; $450,000 bond.
  • Joshua Sirmans, 45, of Lumberton – felony conspiracy and continuing criminal enterprise; $450,000 bond.
  • Jamie West (Britt), 42, of Lumberton – felony conspiracy and continuing criminal enterprise; $450,000 bond.
  • Jaylen West, 18, of Lumberton – felony conspiracy and continuing criminal enterprise; $450,000 bond.
  • Don Christopher Hawes, 44, of Bladenboro – felony conspiracy and continuing criminal enterprise; $450,000 bond.
  • Dylan Sirmans, also charged on Aug. 22 with felony possession of a controlled substance in a jail/prison; $50,000 bond.

The investigation began on Aug. 21 when detention center staff discovered illegal drugs in an inmate’s possession.

Deputies said methamphetamine, suboxone strips, and weapons were seized, and interviews and searches revealed a broader conspiracy involving inmates, friends, relatives, and the former detention officer.

Sheriff Burnis Wilkins said, “This extensive investigation revealed that multiple inmates, along with friends, relatives, and even one of our own detention officers, conspired together to sell, deliver, and distribute drugs while operating a felony criminal enterprise. This behavior undermines the safety and security of our jail, betrays the public’s trust, and places lives at risk.”

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are possible.
