VIRGINIA — Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Police will operate an administrative checkpoint in downtown Richmond this weekend as part of a nationwide effort to reduce impaired driving.
The checkpoint is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 23, from 9 p.m. to midnight on the 700 block of West Main Street near VCU’s Monroe Park Campus. Officers from VCU Police, Virginia State Police, and the Richmond Police Department will be on-site.
Officials said they will check driver’s licenses and vehicle registrations, remind drivers about safe nighttime driving, and enforce violations, including driving under the influence.
The checkpoint is part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, which runs from Aug. 13 through Sept. 1 and aims to prevent impaired driving during the Labor Day holiday period.
