Driver hospitalized after crashing into popular Ohio steakhouse

CLEVELAND — A 24-year-old man was rushed to the hospital early Thursday after losing control of his vehicle and crashing through the front of Jaja Steakhouse, a popular restaurant in Ohio City, according to Cleveland police.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene on Gehring Avenue around 3 a.m., just a block from the West Side Market, to find bystanders screaming for help.

Police reported the driver’s black Audi was wedged into the front of the restaurant, causing significant structural damage.

Authorities believe the vehicle was speeding down Abbey Avenue when the driver lost control, striking a fire hydrant before crashing through the restaurant’s wall and colliding with a staircase and vault inside.

The car sustained heavy damage in the impact.

Cleveland police confirmed that speed was a factor in the crash but noted the car was not stolen.

The driver was transported to the hospital in serious but stable condition.
