TENNESSEE — The Macon County Sheriff’s Office discovered numerous animals living in unsafe and unsanitary conditions after executing a search warrant Monday as part of an ongoing animal cruelty investigation.
Sheriff Joseph Wilburn said deputies searched a home in the 8000 block of Old Highway 52, where they found several cats and dogs living in freezing temperatures. He explained that the unsafe conditions followed a recent structure fire at the property.
Deputies have been working with True Rescue of Mt. Juliet to remove the surviving animals and provide care.
The rescue organization reported finding about 40 cats and three dogs, noting that many suffered burn wounds, respiratory issues, and other health concerns. The group also said there was a significant loss of animal life during the fire.
True Rescue has issued a call for volunteers, foster families, and donations to support the ongoing care of the animals. Those interested in helping can contact the organization through its website, Facebook Messenger, or email.
