Domestic call results in drugs, weapons bust in South Carolina

SOUTH CAROLINA — A domestic dispute call in Gaffney resulted in the arrest of a man and the discovery of a large cache of illegal weapons, drugs, and ammunition, according to the Gaffney Police Department.

Officers responded to the 100 block of Walnut Street on August 4 and encountered 34-year-old Dylan Rhett Simpson.

During the initial contact, police found a Glock 27 handgun equipped with an illegal machine gun conversion device, along with three standard magazines, a 29-round extended magazine, two knives, and a 3D-printed pair of brass knuckles.

A personal search of Simpson uncovered 5.9 grams of methamphetamine and two dosage units of Adderall.

Further investigation led to a search of Simpson’s vehicle, where officers discovered additional weapons and gear, including:

• A Glock 22 with a machine gun conversion device
• A 300 Blackout rifle equipped with an autosear and silencer
• An AR-10 rifle with an autosear
• A Smith & Wesson .38 Special revolver
• A North American Arms .22 Magnum revolver
• Multiple extended and standard magazines, including a 50-round drum
• A plate carrier with ballistic plates and nine fully loaded magazines (.308 and 300 Blackout)
• Ten additional PMAGs and four sets of .308 magazines taped for tactical reloads
• Loose ammunition in various calibers

Simpson was arrested and charged with:

• Distribution, manufacture, or possession with intent to distribute cocaine base
• Two counts of unlawful storage or possession of a machine gun or sawed-off shotgun
• Possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime
• Possession of a Schedule I-V controlled substance

He is currently being held at the Cherokee County Detention Center and was denied bond. The investigation is ongoing.
