
NORTH CAROLINA — A deadly two-vehicle crash on Interstate 85 in Gaston County Thursday morning caused significant traffic backups that were expected to last for several hours, officials said.
The crash occurred around 11 a.m. on Feb. 19 along the southbound lanes of I-85 near Bessemer City Road in Gastonia. Authorities confirmed the collision was fatal but have not released how many people were killed or whether others were injured.
Officials with the North Carolina Department of Transportation warned that traffic impacts would be significant and estimated the roadway would reopen around 3 p.m.
As of the latest update, the cause of the crash remains unclear and is under investigation.
