Current status of SNAP benefits in Ohio following funding freeze

OHIO — Ohio’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients can rest assured that their benefits will not be impacted by the temporary funding freeze resulting from a federal judge’s ruling against President Donald Trump’s attempt to pause certain federal grants and loans.

The freeze, which will last until at least Monday, applies only to existing programs subject to a review aimed at aligning them with the new administration’s policies.

However, officials have confirmed that key programs, including SNAP, will continue uninterrupted.

The freeze, prompted by a lawsuit from nonprofit groups, does not target programs that provide direct benefits to individuals, such as food stamps (SNAP), Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and student loans.

These programs, crucial to many Ohioans, will not be affected by the temporary pause in funding.

Trump administration officials explained that the freeze is part of a broader review process intended to ensure federal programs align with new policies.

Despite this review, all payments required by law, including those for SNAP, will continue without delay.

The freeze does not extend to funds for small businesses, farmers, Pell grants, or rental assistance either, meaning that Ohioans who rely on these programs can expect continued support.

In short, Ohio SNAP recipients will not see any disruption in their benefits during this period of review, and the funding freeze will not affect the direct assistance programs they depend on.
