NORTH CAROLINA — A convicted felon was arrested and two modified firearms were seized during a search warrant operation in Oak City on Saturday, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said deputies executed search warrants on April 11 at two residences on Whitfield Drive as part of an ongoing investigation involving Shawrun Maggette Jr.

Before the search warrants were carried out, deputies conducted a traffic stop involving Maggette in the Oak City area. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to one of the homes on Whitfield Drive.

During the search, investigators seized two handguns, including a Glock 17 equipped with a machine gun conversion device, commonly referred to as a “Glock switch,” along with an extended magazine. Deputies also recovered a Glock 19 equipped with a forced reset trigger. Authorities said both modifications are capable of significantly increasing a firearm’s rate of fire.

Maggette faces multiple charges, including possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a weapon of mass destruction and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is also facing charges tied to a previous firearm-related offense from March 30.

Officials said Maggette was issued a $300,000 secured bond on the new charges and is being held without bond due to a parole violation.

The investigation was conducted with assistance from the Williamston Police Department, Bertie County Sheriff’s Office, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections, Homeland Security Investigations and the State Bureau of Investigation.

The investigation remains ongoing.
