KENTUCKY — A construction worker was struck by a truck Friday afternoon while directing traffic at a work site in Independence, police said.
Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Madison Pike and Wayman Drive around 1:54 p.m. for a report of an injured pedestrian.
According to investigators, the worker was hit by a Ford F-150 while crews were working in the area. The driver, identified as Thomas Hummel, was arrested shortly afterward and charged with second-degree assault.
Authorities have not released details about the condition of the injured worker, and it remains unclear what led to the crash.
Hummel is scheduled to be arraigned in court Monday morning.
