Cleveland Heights man tries to fight two juveniles at mall

BEACHWOOD — A confrontation at Beachwood Place mall on October 6 resulted in the arrest of a Cleveland Heights man after a dispute involving two teenagers in the food court.

According to Beachwood Police, they were called to the mall around 2:50 p.m. following reports of a fight between the 56-year-old man and two juveniles, twin brother and sister, both 16.

The teens, along with their mother, were found in the mall parking lot, while the man was questioned near the Dillard’s exit.

The altercation began when the girl noticed the man looking at her in what she described as a “creepy” manner while ordering a smoothie. She informed her brother, who confronted the man.

A disagreement escalated, with the boy throwing his food at the man after alleging that the man had threatened both him and his sister.

Their mother, who had arrived to pick them up, told police she wished to press charges for menacing.

The man initially gave police a false name and said he did not have identification. When police escorted him to his car, he claimed his ID was not inside.

Officers then used a portable fingerprinting device, but the man refused to provide the necessary prints.

Eventually, his commercial driver’s license was found in the vehicle, revealing that he was wanted by the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office for a parole violation.

The man was arrested on the warrant and now faces an additional charge of menacing.
