ALABAMA — A three-year-old child was seriously injured Tuesday afternoon after being attacked by a dog in Lauderdale County, according to the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred around noon off Highway 157, north of Underwood and Petersville. Authorities said the child, who lived next door to the dog, walked over to pet it when the animal attacked.
The child’s mother and other onlookers intervened, and the child was airlifted to Vanderbilt Hospital with serious injuries. The dog was shot by a bystander before law enforcement arrived on the scene.
LCSO reported that the child required multiple stitches but is now in stable condition. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
